As soon as you can
If you're reading this, we love you very much, and would like to invite you to join us to celebrate our thirty years in this wonderful life.
This is a D&D-themed party set in the city of Waterdeep. We will head upstate for the weekend, and everyone plays a character from one of the city's noble houses. There will also be plenty of music and dancing.
You don't need to know anything about Dungeons & Dragons. You'll get your character before you arrive.
What the Weekend Is Like
It's a story you live in for two days. You'll play a member of one of Waterdeep's noble houses. Your character has a family, a few friends, and some things they want out of the weekend. You'll parley with friends and the odd rival, hunt for clues, chase your own side quests, and maybe turn up a mystery or two along the way.
This works best if everyone's pretty in. If this isn't your thing, we still love you, but this weekend may not be the most fun for you.
You don't have to run anything. If you want to be involved, text us.
The World
Waterdeep, the City of Splendors
A great port city, and the classic setting of Dungeons & Dragons.
The Roll
Waterdeep's noble houses sit on the Roll, an old council created by the wizard Ahghairon. Each seat on the Roll is tied to a coin, not to a family. Whoever carries the coin holds the seat.
The Charter
The Charter is the agreement Ahghairon wrote when he created the Roll. It sets out who holds a seat and how the city is run. Every so often, the seat-holders gather with their coins to renew it. The houses care about this a great deal. The Charter is what keeps the old order in place, along with their standing and the peace of the city. Renewing it is a celebration, done the way it has always been done: with feasting and dancing.
Your family's coin
Long ago, your house was given one of those coins. It has been handed down and argued over for generations, and this year your house is sending its people to carry it to the Feast.
The Feast of the Moon
At the end of autumn, Waterdeep honours its ancestors. Families gather, feast, and tell their old stories late into the night. This year, the Feast is also when the seat-holders renew the Charter. That's why you've been invited.
That's all you need. The rest you'll discover over the weekend.
